Arthur Whatley CHITTY (1824-1905), son of Charles of Muntham, entered the Indian Navy and became Captain and C.I.E. He married, 1863 Feb 14 (?in India) Mary Jane JAMESON, one of the daughters of General Sir George JAMESON of the Bombay Staff Corps. She died 1923 Jul 11 having had six children:

1. Sir Arthur Charles, b.1864 Jul 27, d.1948 Egyptian Government Service, K.C.M.G., 1st class Osmanieh, 3rd class Medjidie, rank of Bey.

2. Ernest Richard Inglis, b.1867 Oct 11, d.1917 Mch 25; educated Clifton and Sandhurst, Lt.Colonel, Indian Army; killed near Bagdad, Mesopotamia; married 1894 Aug 14, St John, Surbiton, Dorothy Ada RAMSAY, b.1872 Oct 25 and had issue:

i. Arthur Alexander Ernest, b.1895 Jun 12, Baluchistan, d.1966; educated Clifton and Sandhurst, Lt.Col., R. West Kent Regt., and a member of the Society of Genealogists. Registered his pedigree, assumed the name of MERLOTT-CHITTY and was authorised to marshall the MERLOTT Arms with those of CHITTY; married (1st) 1922 Nov 15,Fort William, Calcutta, Anna Theodora OGILVIE, b.1904 Nov 3, daughter of Maj. Gen. Sir Waiter OGILVIE, K.B.E., by whom he had issue; he married (2nd) 19.. Gwen.

b. Peter Ogilvie Merlott, b.1929 Apr 8, Kohat.

ii. Dorothy Ada Gladys Mary, b.1897 Jul 25, Eastbourne, married 1917 Apr 10, Berne, Switzerland, Archie Stuart FRASER, Major, Dorset Regt., and had issue.

iii. Marjorie Joyce, b.1913 Apr 18, Poona, married 1938 Apr 9 Aidan Frederic WIGRAM, Flt.Lt., R.A.F., killed in action 1914 Nov 11/12,having had issue.

3. Walter Willis, b.1868 Jun 11, d.1933 Jul 11, educated Clifton and Sandhurst, Colonel, Indian Army, C.I.E., C.M.G., C.V.O.; married 1903 Nov 16, Bombay, Mabel Agnes Josephine BRADY, daughter of Capt. George BRADY, R.N.R., and had issue:

i. Kathleen Norah Josephine, b.1905 Jun 26, married 1925 Jun 25, London, Gilbert VIVIAN, Major.

ii. Joan Florence Winifred, b.1909 May 6, married 1936 Oct 11, London, Graeme TYRRELL, Capt., R.A.
